GW crashing, lagging, freezing..
Oh well.. I don't get this. I feel I've tried everything and it still doesn't run. My system should be fine:
CPU: 2 processors running - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 400
CPU Speed: 2.11 GHz Performance Rated at 6.00 GHz
System RAM: 1022.9 MB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition (Build 6000)
Video Card: Radeon X1650 Series
Video Card Driver Version (DirectX): 7.14.10.487
DirectX Version: 10.0
Free Disk Space: 113.2 GB
So is it Vista? I downloaded some tool to switch Aero off but it didn't make any difference..
What do you suggest? To buy more RAM?
And how can I know it's not about my connection? I don't know how to check the information about it :/

I got lag only due to poor video card, but never face any crashing/freezing even I got many times worse CPU than you. I think it is the Vista causing problems, as I have XP.
Vista is still new thing so I wouldn't be suprised if it is because of it.

I was wondering that too, but so many people seem to run GW with Vista and have no problem at all.
Another thing I was suspecting was that I have a Dual Core Processor, and I just read one topic about how this kind of processors tend to "divide" the memory. The writer of that topic solved his problems by adding more memory.. I was wondering if that could help me too?
It's just too sad not to be able to play GW just because I have Vista *sigh*

Haha, yes of course
It's just rather furstrating since my old comp didn't run GW (it had just slightly lower specs than this one and it had Windows XP on it).
I was so hoping that this new one would. Well, I'll report back here if increasing memory will help.

Omg! The problem is solved I'm so happy! After nearly 6 months of crashing.
I found the answer from the topic I already mentioned:

After you load GW, ctl-alt-del then bring up task manager, under applications select Guild Wars, right click select go to process, right click on gw process, select set affinity, clear check mark for CPU 1.

I did that and now the game runs smooth, smoother than ever before
So if you're having the same problem this is definitely worth giving a try!

Im having Vista Problems as well
Lately I have been tryign to get back into Guild Wars after a bad case of WoW fever, but I recently (about 2 months ago) upgraded to Vista on my computer that was top of the line almost 3 years ago. XP ran Guild Wars flawlessly for me, I could put all visuals and sound settings on the highest they could go and no sort of lag was noticed, except for maybe in Kaineng City or Kamadan. Its horrible because I try to play GW and revisit some of the old places, but its so much more choppy than ever and I get so frustrated. Im trying to get ready for GW:EN but this malfunction (of my stupidity of giving Vista the benefit of the doubt) is seriously turning me away from GW.
Now, my question is, is there something I can do that will help framerate issues or loading? It could be that I had to reinstall GW when i installed Vista (and might I add that I had no hardware issues when i installed Vista, it was a fairly smooth transition, unlike a lot of what other people say). After you reinstall GW, every instance you go through has to reload everything, so that may be the case. But i still think that Vista has something to do with it. Does anyone else have this problem? I realize that my computer is almsot 3 years old, but it was top of the line back in the day. Here are my specs:
P4 3.2 GHz Processor
2gb RAM (recently upgraded from 1 gb for Vista)
ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256 MB
I need some advice! Please!

Did you crash during finalie when presents were droping?
I did, and Guild Wars hasn't been the same now... I uninstalled it, and installed it again. All it does now is lag...
AND I HAVE A 8800GTS! There's something wrong here,
(Also have Vista home premium)
and before this crash, I ran Guild Wars 100% on Vista. :'(
(2GB of RAM if your wondering.)
Hey... Wait... Today there was a Vista update. Hmmm...

Around Christmas time, I didnt have vista cause it hadn't launched yet... and it never crashed with XP. I would have trided to allocate the memory as state before but my cpu is not dual core, just a pentium 4. And yes, vista did have some updates today but they were only for security. I think the lag is based on the Windows Aero interface, its a resource hog. What do you think? IS guild wars coming out with any patches to help with vista because most otehr guys work just fine for me on my system.

I think I'll have to say one more thing here so that no one is going to be misleaded.
GW now runs on my system, but I still experience lags and low framerates but I can live with those because as I said earlier, before the game crashed right away and I wasn't able to play at all.
Of course it would be really nice to have somekind of patch(?) or something to solve those issues.

Never, EVER upgrade your computer blindly when you're freezing and crashing. Freezing and crashing are indicative of a malfunction, NOT inadequate system specs. When you're computer is crashing something is wrong and you need to get to the bottom of it by troubleshooting. Unless you accidentally replace a piece of hardware that was failing (and causing a crash), all upgrading your machine is going to accomplish is perhaps make your system run faster before it crashes.
To the OP: if someone you know fixed a crashing problem by adding memory then they haven't solved the problem. It's likely that they have a memory module going bad, and that adding more memory simply made it so his/her system isn't accessing the memory on the bad module as often.
Windows Vista is more resource-intensive than XP, and as a general rule your games will run slower on it. If you're having problems with Vista your best bet is to check with your hardware vendors and see if they have improved drivers for Vista, as immature Vista drivers have been the source of a lot of problems for people upgrading from XP.

GW display freezing
I am having severe video freezing while playing GW, and only while playing GW.
I have an ATI Radeon X1600XT and have had this problem since June.
I have also been "working" with GW Tech support and have very limited "success" in isolating the problem.
Occasionally using the -noshaders -nosound switches to GW.exe will allow for game play without freezing for a few hours, but problem may still appear.
GW Tech Support will not tell me what they think the problem is, but I have played for over 1500 hrs without problems, and with the same computer, am now having the freezing problem.
It is so frustrating to be playing for an hour or longer only to have it freeze during a significant quest.
I was beginning to think I was the only one having problems.

apparently, vista does not allow me to set the affinity because i "don't have administrator privileges". grrrr.
the game runs fine on my new laptop (core 2 duo T5450, 2gb ram, geforce 8400M GS). of course, i'm always on the lookout to make it run better. so if any of you have any suggestions on how to improve its performance, i'm all ears. currently, the game can maintain a solid 30-40 fps in combat with all settings on high except shadows (off) and AA x2.

is there a way to modify the exe file so that you don't have to keep using the ctrl+alt+delete task menu manually?

for all you guys running vista.
you bought it too soon. In my eyes vista is still to premature.
I have a rather simple solution for your vista woes.
run dual O/S. partition a small part of your drive for WinXP and boot from it whenever you want to do anything other then playing with the Aero Theme.
don't get me wrong vista is lovely, and when new games come out that are only released for vista, we will all have to buy it. but until then i'm sticking with the tried and true XP.
At least when is screws up I can find ways to fix it.

Happening here and im running XP...it didn't start happining untill about a week or 2 before the preiview event. After that it's happning once a day. I play about 5 hours a day and am a full time college student. I just want to play GW w/o having to do deal with crashing, lagging, and all that other stuff. It kills me because i have to reset my comp, making it unstable. I have played around 1,300 hours before the the problem hit and now have hit around 1,800 and it's driving me insane. On the GW update notes they said they fixed it, but im still gettting it. I even did that whole deleat/reinstall junk about an hour before the update. I'm at a compleat loss...

Yes, there is a utility you can download called imagecfg that lets you do this. I have successfully used it in the past to get System Shock 2 working on dual core / hyper-threading systems.
The two commands are:
imagecfg -u c:\path\to\file.exe (Tells the executable to run on a single cpu)
imagecfg -a 0x1 c:\path\to\file.exe (Tells it which one)
You may need only the latter.
I have to say I've had no issues with GW, dual core and Vista 64-bit, (yes, I run a dual boot setup Killboyy777, although I haven't needed to boot into XP yet).
Legendary Guardian: Have you tried reinstalling GW?
